🗓 Monday, August 25 – St. Louis of France & St. Joseph Calasanz King Louis IX of France (1214–1270) sought to govern as a just Christian monarch, known for his care of the poor, his personal holiness, and his leadership of two crusades. He built Sainte-Chapelle in Paris to house relics of the Passion. On the same day, the Church honors St. Joseph Calasanz (1557–1648), a Spanish priest who founded the Piarists, the first free schools in Europe, dedicated to the education of poor children. Both remind us of the call to serve Christ in power and in humility.
🗓 Tuesday, August 26 – St. Teresa of Jesus Jornet Ibars Born in 1843 in Spain, Teresa founded the Little Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly, a congregation dedicated to the care of poor, elderly men and women left without family. With faith and charity, she gave dignity to those often forgotten by society. Her legacy continues in her order’s homes across the world today.
🗓 Wednesday, August 27 – St. Monica The mother of St. Augustine, Monica spent decades praying and weeping for the conversion of her son, her husband, and her family. Her perseverance was answered when Augustine embraced the faith, becoming one of the Church’s greatest saints. Monica is honored as a model of patient, steadfast prayer for loved ones.
